Our Mission
The Mission of Fox Valley Christian Action is to help the local church serve under-resourced communities around them. Our passion is to see the power of the Gospel transform lives of families living in our local public and subsidized housing communities. Everything that Fox Valley Christian Action does takes place through two initiatives: Riverwoods and Riverworks.
Riverwoods Family Campus
Riverwoods Family Campus is our headquarter facility and includes all of the great programs and experiences that we offer "on campus." The mission of Riverwoods Family Campus is to serve as a central venue and structured environment for training, education, and discipleship programs which require facilities away from the housing communities – a great place to get away and connect with God!
Riverworks Life Skills Outreach
Riverworks Life skills Outreach includes everything that we do in the communities all year-round. Riverworks is staffed by eight full time Community Coordinators who partner with local church congregations to place everyday people as teachers, mentors and volunteer advocates to serve in under-resourced communities.
Our History
In 1977, founders Champ Boutwell, Tony Danhelka and Paul Johannaber began Riverwoods Christian Center as a camping ministry to enable youth from disadvantaged areas to experience the hope, power and love of Jesus Christ. During the 1980s, the ministry began also to work with families inside their under-resourced neighborhoods and communities throughout the Fox Valley. Alongside local churches, we began providing these families with advocacy, support, education and discipleship. In an effort to expand this successful and much-needed aspect of the ministry, in 2011 Riverwoods reorganized its ministries under the banner of Fox Valley Christian Action and introduced Riverworks Life Skills Outreach.
Organization
Fox Valley Christian Action is non-profit organization governed by a board of directors. We are supported by faith through charitable giving. We are members of the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability. To support this ministry, please contact our Director of Development, Leanne Harbaugh.
Conference Facilities
The Riverwoods Family Campus can be rented for a day, a weekend or a week. Lodging, food service, activities and conference support services are available at great rates. Contact Retreat Manager.
