Reports to:  Teen Program Director

Job Description:

To supervise, guide, love, and care for a group of 5-8 teens (of age groups from 13-17 years old) during their entire week at FVCA.

Qualifications:

  • Have a relationship with God and profess to be a born-again Christian
  • Must have regular Church attendance, and a pastor or leader references
  • Must have a desire to minister to teens in a camp setting consistent with the ministry, missions, values, and goals of FVCA
  • Must have an acceptable level of spiritual, mental, social and emotional maturity
  • Must have organizational abilities and creativity
  • Must have supervisory/mentoring experience
  • To adapt and relate cross-culturally and embrace diversity
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Have high energy and an outgoing personality

Expectations:

  • Follow all guidelines by FVCA, including the philosophy, goals, and objectives of FVCA, as well as any secondary procedures and instructions
  • Model Christ-likeness in all things. Your attitude towards summer staff, campers, teens, volunteers, etc… Should reflect in your actions. Your attitude toward activities, inconveniences, Bible studies, and other people will directly influence the attitude of campers toward these things
  • Your spiritual and physical health is crucial to your ministry, therefore you are expected to meet with God daily, get enough rest, to be physically fit to endure the long days of camp, and to participate in all relevant meetings
  • Always be on time. Tardiness will not be accepted. If you are unable to be on time, you must make your supervisor aware, ahead of time
  • Understand and follow all safety procedures at all times
  • Maintain the safety of your teens at all times, placing their welfare and interest above your own
  • Develop disciplining relationships to assist teens in growing and maturing through a variety of camp experiences
  • Encourage campers and teens with words and actions at all times
  • Help teens become more aware of God in each aspect of their lives so they are capable of continued growth on their own after camp
  • Assist with program evaluation and thorough cleaning at the end of each session and at the end of the summer
  • Must be flexible! Be able to adapt quickly to change in program or event
  • Have fun! Balance organization and spontaneity to create lasting positive memories for staff and campers
  • Positivity is a MUST!!!
  • You will be asked to take on different tasks and or assignments as needed
  • Supervise and assist in all activities in your area of the camp
  • Be missions minded

Note:
As a Teen Counselor, your spiritual and physical wellbeing will build or break summer camp, engaging with your teens is crucial. You have a tough role in summer camp, but you have the most rewarding task. You have the ability to build future leaders. Every moment spent with them will make the difference in the life of our teens. Take charge, love, serve and uphold the tasks and rules that need to be implemented.
